Depart this morning for your drive to Ngorongoro Crater, a giant terrarium containing one of the largest permanent concentrations of game and one of the most spectacular game reserves in Africa. The caldera is a perfect haven for lion, elephant, giraffe, buffalo, flamingo, hyena, antelope, gazelle and black rhino. Overnight at Ngorongoro Serena Lodge, located near the rim of the crater. Nine miles in diameter and 2000 feet below the forested rim, 102 square miles of terrain await as you descend by 4X4 vehicle to the crater's grassland floor. This morning leave the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and drive to the Olduvai Gorge. It was here in 1959 that Dr. Louis Leakey, the famous anthropologist, discovered the Zinjantropus Bosei, the 1.75 million year-old skull, placing man's beginnings in East Africa. Continue to one of Africa's most famous parks -- the Serengeti. There are two full days to explore its 5,600 square miles. You will see cheetah, giraffe, lion, leopard, elephant -- the list is endless. Each year it is the scene of the great migration where millions of wildebeest and zebra make their annual trek in search of water and fresh grass. (B,L,D) |

Depart Nairobi and drive to Sweetwaters Tented Camp and its private game reserve at Ol Pejeta Ranch. Here you have the chance to actually pet and be photographed with a tame Rhino, currently under the protection of the Kenya Wildlife Service. After breakfast drive north into Kenya's lush interior to experience a typical African market. This very colorful stop provides an opportunity to buy locally made crafts. Continue north into the semi-desert bush country of the northern frontier district to meet the nomads of the desert - the Samburu tribe. The luxury tented camp is situated on the bank of the Uaso Nyiro River. Afternoon game drive in the reserve to view wildlife unique to this area. (B,L,D) |

Today rise with the sun to experience an early morning game drive. See reticulated giraffe, Grevy's zebra, elephant, warthog, gerenuk, oryx and, if you are lucky, leopard. Drive south through Isiolo to the base of 16,000 ft. Mt. Kenya and the incomparable Mt. Kenya Safari Club, haunt of conservationists William Holden and Stephanie Powers. Enjoy the beautifully manicured grounds and gardens, lounge around the pool, go horseback riding, play tennis or visit the excellent endangered animal orphanage.
