Day 2: Amsterdam/Arusha

Mountain Village

Morning arrival in Amsterdam connecting with the flight to Arusha, Tanzania. Upon arrival you are met and transferred to the Mountain Village Serena Hotel.

Day 3: Arusha/Lake Manyara

Manyara Serena

Begin your safari as you depart Arusha for Lake Manyara, one of the beautiful Rift Valley lakes. Manyara Reserve is known for its famous tree-climbing lions. Observe local wildlife on an afternoon game drive. (B,L,D)

Day 4: Lake Manyara/Ngorongoro

Ngorongoro Serena

Depart this morning for your drive to Ngorongoro Crater, a giant terrarium containing one of the largest permanent concentrations of game and one of the most spectacular game reserves in Africa. The caldera is a perfect haven for lion, elephant, giraffe, buffalo, flamingo, hyena, antelope, gazelle and black rhino. Overnight at Ngorongoro Serena Lodge, located near the rim of the crater. Day 5: Ngorongoro Crater

Nine miles in diameter and 2000 feet below the forested rim, 102 square miles of terrain await as you descend by 4X4 vehicle to the crater's grassland floor. Take a picnic lunch as you spend the day amongst the wildlife. Return to your lodge for an afternoon ³Sundowner² overlooking one of the most remarkable sights you will ever see. (B,L,D)

Day 6: Ngorongoro/Serengeti

This morning leave the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and drive to the Olduvai Gorge. It was here in 1959 that Dr. Louis Leakey, the famous anthropologist, discovered the Zinjantropus Bosei, the 1.75 million year-old skull, placing man's beginnings in East Africa. Continue to one of Africa's most famous parks -- the Serengeti. There are two full days to explore its 5,600 square miles. You will see cheetah, giraffe, lion, leopard, elephant -- the list is endless. Each year it is the scene of the great migration where millions of wildebeest and zebra make their annual trek in search of water and fresh grass. (B,L,D)

Day 7: Serengeti National Park

Full day in The Serengeti. You will have morning and late afternoon game drives taking advantage of myriad species of game in the area. (B,L,D)

Day 8: Serengeti/Arusha/Nairobi

Norfolk Hotel

Morning flight to Arusha connecting with the onward flight to Nairobi. Transfer to the historic Norfolk Hotel for overnight. Balance of the afternoon at leisure for optional activities: Giraffe Manor, Karen Blixen House, African Heritage Arts & Craft Center. (B,L)

Day 9: Nairobi/Ol Pejeta Ranch

Sweetwaters Camp

Depart Nairobi and drive to Sweetwaters Tented Camp and its private game reserve at Ol Pejeta Ranch. Here you have the chance to actually pet and be photographed with a tame Rhino, currently under the protection of the Kenya Wildlife Service. There is also a visit to the Jane Goodall Chimpanzee Sanctuary. (B,L,D)

Day 10: Aberdare/Samburu

Samburu Intrepids

After breakfast drive north into Kenya's lush interior to experience a typical African market. This very colorful stop provides an opportunity to buy locally made crafts. Continue north into the semi-desert bush country of the northern frontier district to meet the nomads of the desert - the Samburu tribe. The luxury tented camp is situated on the bank of the Uaso Nyiro River. Afternoon game drive in the reserve to view wildlife unique to this area. (B,L,D)

Day 11: Samburu Game Reserve

Samburu Intrepids

Today rise with the sun to experience an early morning game drive. See reticulated giraffe, Grevy's zebra, elephant, warthog, gerenuk, oryx and, if you are lucky, leopard. After lunch there is time to rest during the midday heat to prepare for the late afternoon game drive taking advantage of the animals' increased activity later in the day. (B,L,D)

Day 12: Samburu/Nanyuki

Mt. Kenya Safari Club

Drive south through Isiolo to the base of 16,000 ft. Mt. Kenya and the incomparable Mt. Kenya Safari Club, haunt of conservationists William Holden and Stephanie Powers. Enjoy the beautifully manicured grounds and gardens, lounge around the pool, go horseback riding, play tennis or visit the excellent endangered animal orphanage. This truly is one of the most beautiful places in Kenya. (B,L,D)

Day 13: Masai Mara

Mara Safari Club/Kichwa Tembo

Morning flight to Kenya's, if not the world's, most famous game reserve -- the Masai Mara, home to the venerable tribe of the same name. Your tented camp is located on the banks of the Mara River. You have three days to explore this fabulous reserve. (B,L,D)

The Masai Mara has the highest concentration of plains game in the country. You will see elephant, giraffe, prides of lion and thousands of impala, topi, Thomson's & Grant's gazelle. The Masai Mara is the scene of the annual migration of wildebeest and zebra from the Serengeti Plains in search of water and grasses -- one of the greatest wildlife spectacles of the world. After morning and afternoon game drives, linger in the evening on the verandah with a ³sundowner² in hand and discuss the day's excitement with fellow travelers. (B,L,D)
